MSU gets top U.S.News 2010 America’s Best Colleges rankings for 19th consecutive year: University continues to be only Kentucky public to be ranked for that length of time in guide

Once again Murray State University (MSU) finds itself ranked among the top public universities in the nation. U.S.News & World Report’s 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges, considered by many to be the top college guide in the country, has recognized MSU for the 19th consecutive year in the Best Universities-Master’s South, which includes both private and public schools. This is the fifth consecutive year Murray State has ranked in the top 20.

The newest rankings include Murray as seventh in the Top Public University-Master’s/South division. The university has appeared in the top 10 of that category for the past several years. Additionally, a tally of overall scores shows Murray State at 11th among the country’s top public universities at the master’s level.

“This recognition allows us another accepted way to see how we measure up against national competition,” said Dr. Randy J. Dunn, president of Murray State University. “This ranking remains a point of pride for MSU and we know that it positions us next to other outstanding colleges and universities — which in turn requires us to continually improve our efforts toward excellence in teaching and learning.”

Over the past 26 years, the U.S. News college rankings, which groups schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, has grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities. The America’s Best Colleges ranking package, which includes extensive editorial content and multimedia resources, has helped families navigate the difficult decisions involved throughout the college process, from college admission and selection to financing options.

The U.S.News rankings follow closely on the heels of more recognition this summer for Murray. The Chronicle of Higher Education selected Murray State as one of 150 Great Colleges to Work For®. Recognized in nine categories, MSU outpaced the only other public university in Kentucky to be rated — Eastern Kentucky University. G.I.Jobs rated the university as a “Military Friendly School” and GetEducated.com named Murray State among its “Top 50 Best Buys in Online Business Schools” for its B.S. in Business and B.S. in Telecommunications Systems Management distance learning degree programs.
