The Unexpected/Unplanned Fun in China

Study Abroad is exciting and fun not just because of the planned activities, however, the unplanned ones too. Examples are your tour bus stops in the middle of a small town in China and everyone is hungry….so we all get out to push it in one direction then another, faculty, student, hosts, tour guide. It is also those conversations you fall into with locals for no reason at all when you are in a public area or just sitting in a park. You see the similarities and the different perspectives all at once. There is nothing more special than that – the older people I have run into are the most fun too. I remember an old guy in London telling me once when I was lost to just ask at the Pub because they always know everything and everyone at the pub. He then offered to buy me a pint and we had a very nice chat – and I got my directions. – Submitted by Judy Ratliff
